Which used to be considered both normal and expected, back in the days
when getting online at all was a chore and anyone who'd managed it was
at least motivated to keep the whole thing working. Back when getting
mail delivered was by no means certain, and anything you could do to help
it along was a victory for the light. Before Cantor and Seigel.
