You can put a password on the hard disk and/or the power-up.
You can lock it in a bag.
You can use some local encryption software to encrypt confidential
information.
You can get a laptop lock, which is a cable that locks into the laptop and
goes around a chair or something.
Or you can never take it out. This one works, but it is the usual business
issue with security of functionality versus security !!

You can get an excellent Samsonite briefcase, customised by a company that I
think is called BOSS. The case has a built in motion-detection alarm. It is
also supplied with a special lockable bracket that is fitted in the boot of
your car. You then lock the laptop into the bracket so it can't be nicked
from the car. It looks like a nice briefcase, but it is all padded on the
inside for a laptop. I think there might be some sort of electronic lock,
but I can't remember.
