I have recently been through this same scenario. I don't know how much I
recommend MCI as their
service record seems really poor. They are basically owners of UUNET
which isn't a bad thing either though. The hardware you require all
depends on what telephone system you are using currently. One of hte
better PBX systems is Lucent's Wizard, which works nicely with the AS1
(T1 card). The card itself runs about $2,000-3,000 depending on who you
go with. As for Router/Firewall, for a small buisness, I reccomend
Netopia products. They make a very nice router, the R5300 FRAC T1/T1
(Fractional router) that also acts as a firewall (packet filter).
(It also has a very nifty price, less than $1,000.)
And furthermore, if you want a company that will assist you in all your
Network needs as well, check out CTC Communications in comparison to
MCI.

Subject: T1 Help - Slightly Off Topic
Currently I have a LAN with around 20 users connected to the 'net via a
dual-homed Windows NT server running MS Proxy 2. The external NIC is
connected to an ISDN router. That router is using NAT and has basic
packet
filtering. We are looking at getting a T1 and using two channels (128k)
for
data and the rest for voice. I've been told by the MCI guys that we
will
need a channel bank, and whatever router we get will be connected to
that.
Question one: What type of WAN interface card will the router need to
talk
to the channel bank? Just a 'T1' card? Also, can someone recommend a
good
router/firewall? I'd like to spend less than $2000 on the router. So
far
I've been looking at Cisco and Nortel Networks' products, but I know
there
are other nice products out there.
Thanks,
-Rob
