I was not encouraging people to buy the most expensive hardware.
My meaning was that one should use a machine that doesn't slow the network.
I've made this reply to "use your slowest... machine" advice. I have a
386SX25 just at
my feet here. I'll never use it as a FW. [Well, Apparently Andrew was
meaning to hurry

To be more precise, I'd select the machine among those depending on the
machines
usage! I prefer to have a fast FW and a slow machine that's seldom used...
Also, the connection speed is not the only factor. The number of hosts, the
number of
simultaneous connections, .... etc. Also, logging uses both storage and
CPU, ...
BTW. I'm amazed that so many people are happy with their network speed.
Since the "explosion" of the internet, I find it too slow (oh those old
times...)
