I am running Xubuntu 16.04. with fish version 2.3.1 installed. On the fish web site I have now found the .deb fish file for Xenial AMD 64. I downloaded that and tried to install it, using gDebi. I got an unsatisfied dependency message that the new version of fish common was missing.
So I downloaded that file, again as a .deb, and tried to install it. Now I am told that the 2.4.1 version of fish needs to be installed. So I am going round in a circle. To install the new version I am told that I need to have fish common installed first, But to install fish common I need to have the new version of fish installed. Can someone tell me, please, how to get out of this?
