Congratulations on keeping a cool head and not allowing yourself to be intimidated. I don't know where you live in California, but there are some barns I can recommend where the owners are sane and supportive. These are in Castro Valley and the Oakland Hills and a barn quite close to us whose arena and paddock facilities are not quite as good as the others, but where the care is responsible.
