Scratches has been discussed a great deal on an equine vet list I'm on. About a 100 different remedies were given, which means there is probably a 100 different causes. Bacteria, fungus, bacteria & fungus, allergy, reaction to sunlight (on white legs), parasites, etc., etc. The best treatment I've found is using an antiseptic ointment with a steroid in it. I'm sure your vet can help you with this. Keeping the foot clean and dry helps a lot too. Good luck, Steve White Waterloo, NE
