I have never had a whisper of rainrot or scratches (same thing?) on the
fjords, but my Trakehener who is a sorrel w/ 4  long white stockings,
usually succombs to it every spring, as it gets pretty soggy out in the
pasture w/ the fresh grass. If I don't get on top of it, it will persist,
as we have irrigated pasture they live on year round.

I got so tired of picking at the scabs, which was very painful for him,
that I clipped all of the hair near the site(s), scrubbed it thoroughly
with Betadine scub, dried his legs in the sun, then I applied a
concoction of equal portions of triple antibiotic, generic brands of
diaper rash ointment and vaginal yeast infection ointments. Then I
wrapped each leg in plastic wrap and did him up in a quilted wrap/flannel
bandage standing wrap. I left this junk on for 2 days, then unwrapped,
washed out & sundried his legs, then I put him in a DRY stall w/ turnout
run. He really responded well, and was completely "over" it in about 8
days. Now I and the woman that is sponsoring him check him frequently for
little spots so we can attack them before they turn into bigger monsters.

I got the wierd scratches recipe off of the CD-List I think.
