Peg there are so many old wives tales about alfalfa.  Of course I would not
feed rich food to a horse during a colic and I am not sure what you mean by
"depressed".  My big boy has always had "lie downs" where he will get up and
down and seems uncomfortable but usually it wears off by the time the Vet
gets here. It got to be a joke with the Vets.  Eventually I would give him a
shot of banamine and within short order he was up.  I do not know if the
banamine had a chance to work or not.

Meanwhile, last winter, he developed nasal discharge and coughing and the
beginnings of heaves  so I started feeding him outside on the ground and wet
his hay.  He has not had a "lie down" since.  Makes me wonder if he was not
drinking enough water and would get plugged.  I note he rarely eats salt .

They should have made our animals with see through skin so we did not have
to guess so much.

Is it as cold there as here?  26 last night and so dry.    Jean
