This message is from: "Jean Gayle" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Peg there are so many old wives tales about alfalfa. Of course I would not feed rich food to a horse during a colic and I am not sure what you mean by "depressed". My big boy has always had "lie downs" where he will get up and down and seems uncomfortable but usually it wears off by the time the Vet gets here. It got to be a joke with the Vets. Eventually I would give him a shot of banamine and within short order he was up. I do not know if the banamine had a chance to work or not.
Meanwhile, last winter, he developed nasal discharge and coughing and the beginnings of heaves so I started feeding him outside on the ground and wet his hay. He has not had a "lie down" since. Makes me wonder if he was not drinking enough water and would get plugged. I note he rarely eats salt . They should have made our animals with see through skin so we did not have to guess so much. Is it as cold there as here? 26 last night and so dry. Jean Jean Walters Gayle Aberdeen, WA Author:The Colonel's Daughter $20 PO Box 104 Montesano, WA 98563
