I have a 26 year old Morgan who has had Cushings for 11 years. He has
been on pergolide just as long and is doing fine. Not as good as he was
but still no feet issues. What you have to be careful with is Cushings
can go hand in hand with insulin resistance, which is kind of like
people's diabetes, in that it is sensitivity to sugars and starches. It
is only controlled by diet, no magic pill. If this is the case, you do
not want to feed Senior feed with its molasses.
To learn a lot about both conditions, join the Equine Cushings group on
Yahoo. There is a lot to learn, lots and lots, but this may not be the
only horse you have who will need your knowledge, and you may find out
what ails her.
