I have a mare that had chronic diarrhea after she was weaned. We figured out that good hay, alfalfa, orchard grass etc was the culprit. If I keep her on our local very low protein hay, no diarrhea. I can see immediately if she's had good quality hay as her poop softens. The hay she gets isn't moldy or anything like that - just very low protein. I have it tested occasionally just to keep track.
