Can you use a javascript callback and the innerHTML tag of a DIV to combine the flash swf with a HTML page? Then you would just send the raw HTML to the DIV. You could also be a bit smarter and do the replacing of emoticons in the javascript. AFAIK this shouldn't require a page refresh for flash to communicate with the DIV.
