Hi Jeff I haven't tried it personally, but I think what you are looking for is related to the getDefaultApplication() function in the NativeApplication class. http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/flash/desktop/ NativeApplication.html#getDefaultApplication()
The should give you the path to the application which the OS has associated with the given file extension.
