With respect, Ernest (and I mean that!) that's because you aren't a new
ham.  They need it spelled out.  RTFM has never been a satisfying answer, no
matter how sensible it seems to the person who says it.  And declaring that
something is perfectly clear when, to the listener it is not, is heard as "I
can't be bothered to help you."
