Any satisfied Windows 8 users out there with and without a touchscreen?
The consensus (and sales) indicate a level of dissatisfaction, or is it just
due to tablets?

I use Windows 8 every day on a desktop machine (no touch) and I also use it on
a Surface Pro (touch screen).

I like both just fine.

In general, for "work" tasks on my desktop machine I spend 99% of my time on
the desktop. I'm in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Visual Studio, a command prompt
window, or in a browser. I find very little difference from Windows 7. By the
way, my general manager who isn't a techno geek in any way and just wants to
get work done... HE spends almost all his day in Word and Outlook agrees. We
upgraded him to Windows 8 from Windows XP basically just to annoy him... but,
much to our disappointment, he seems to like Windows 8 just fine (after we
reluctantly showed him a few tips).

I travel with a Surface Pro, because it's both small and very light. I
*really* like poking at menus and icons. On the Surface, I spend 90% of my
time on the desktop... but I find I really like the touch interface.

I WILL admit, the tiled Metro/Modern interface is sort of a pain in the neck
and you have to "work around" it more than "use it for work." But given that I
spend almost all my time on the desktop ignoring it... it's no real problem.
But it is definitely not a positive.
