Bill, As was mentioned earlier, ARR (model P50VDG) is a well regarded supplier. I've also heard good things about the Elecraft PR6.
I'm partial to Down East Microwave's products. The Down East L50LNA has the right amount of gain (circa 15 dB, not 20+), excellent noise figure, and has superior resistance to overload from strong signals. I'm a self-professed "receiver snob" and the L50LNA's design feature-set pushes all my buttons. I haven't done any actual IP3 measurements between the L50LNA and others, so I can't say for certain to what degree its resistance to overload is better. Since you are located in an urban area, likely with lots of discrete noise sources, you might make an even bigger impact on system receive performance by upgrading to an antenna with really good front-to-back and/or front-to-side ratio. The more one can reject noise from directions other than that from which the desired signal originates, the better the desired signal will be copied. Urban noise is the bane of my 6-meter ambitions as well. The latest rage in noise-reducing antennas come from G0KSC's LFA Yagi series. He now has a USA operation called InnovAntennas which sells them here. Check out their 4 element LFA-LN Yagi. It has 30+ dB of F/R that you can see in the pattern plot. All have new (5 years old max) coax. Cable X-perts version. But Chicago City size lot so investigating whatever I can do to hear better. So do you have a in-shack preamp you might recommend? _______________________________________________ Flexedge mailing list [email protected] http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz This is the FlexRadio Systems e-mail Reflector called FlexEdge.
