Eric,

      Thanks for the response.  I guess the safest option is to see if the 
major PC suppliers like Dell will still supply a PC fitted with XP instead. 
How long  market forces will permit a request of this sort remains to be 
seen, so I guess I need to make my mind up pretty soon as to which way to 
jump - SDR or Yaesu/Icom.

 I seem to have unintentionally started a thread which now seems to have a 
mind of its own and is starting to dig deep into the American psyche - 
sorry!!
