Sort of -- it's a very fundamental issue that's better handled by JACK. At the moment, JACK clients on Linux, BSD, and OS X have a better deal, but that may change with Windows 7. It runs on all of them, and with the impending release of 1.0, it will have transparent SMP support as well. It already does networking very nicely. > Ergo, is this the key (bad pun) to move PWRSDR development towards Ubuntu > and away from MS? No. The VR is (1) platform-independent, (2) distributed, (3) based on a state-of-the-art comprehensive audio subsystem. Furthermore, with virtualization, it will support XP for a long time past the point at which Microsoft has stopped acknowledging it, so those who want will be able to keep their current PowerSDR systems rolling for a long time. Being a QSK guy myself and not enamored with MS Windows I am > all for anything that points to a new OS platform, especially if it solves > the QSK issue. It's important where possible to get the OS out of the picture entirely, if only for maintaining an uneasy truce among partisans. As I said before, QSK isn't an issue just for the CW ops. The turnaround performance is critical for any kind of modern digital operation as well. I happen to think circumstances will make Windows alternatives more attractive all the time, even to diehards, but we're simply doing an end-run around the issue completely. The truth is, it matters less all the time. Long-term, the plan is to build a FlexOS, basically a tailored Linux distro with built-in virtualized support for XP, so if it makes a difference to you, you can go on pretending you're running XP. That's the easy part :-) 73 Frank AB2KT -- The only thing we have to fear is whatever comes along next. -- Austin Cline _______________________________________________ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
