I not only added the thermostat, but also nibbled out the area contained by the holes on the front panel. I found the fan mod made the noise non existent in colder weather and as previously quoted, from annoying to knowing the fan is on. The two best things I have done for the SDR radio is added an an external frequency source - which has eliminated frequency drift, and more recently upgraded my pc to a Pentium Quad 6600.
