Don, I have loaded SP3 on 3 different XP machines, with no ill effects. Now I don't run a lot of other common programs on these three (no email, no Microsoft Office, just Open Office which seems ok) .. Sounds like you have some other program that is causing the high DPCs (Delayed Procedure Calls) which can have a big impact on the operation of your computer.. Norton Internet Suite can really hurt the performance, along with any program that needs to make a internet connection, like emails, terminal programs.. Also drivers, I heard that some of the video drivers have been hosing up some systems..
