Hi Jack! I just went from a box radio to a Flex and I'm not computer savvy at all. Have your friend take a look at a recent review of the Flex 5000A I did on eHam.net. If he has any questions please have him contact me. Reading the reflector can be a daunting experience for someone like me who isn't all that knowledgeable about what goes on under the hood of a PC but trust me, you don't have to be a geek to operate the Flex. I am a walking, and very much smiling, example.
