Tim, Well, there's always that empty fire wire port on the back of the radio,
would be nice if Flex came out with a line of Linear Amp, say from 500 watts,
to legal limit that was totally controlled via the fire wire. Or better yet a
modular Amp that you could add 500 watt RF modules and power supply modules to.
Just an idea

I don't think there are any additional goodies on the drawing board for the
FLEX-5000. But if there are, I am sure Ken will figure out how to wedge them
in :-)

Tim, If that fills up the box, any plans for an expansion chassis if Flex
comes out with any more goodies?

Yes. The RX2 installs below the heat sink on underneath the TRX board. Both
the ATU and V/U-mod install on top of the heat sink above the PA. It will fill
up the space in the chassis, but leave enough room for adequate cooling and air
flow.

Tim, Is there room in the box for both the second receiver and the transverter,
assuming that you already have the ATU installed?

Thanks,

Mike

That is it, exactly. A power connector has to be added to the PA board for the
60 watt version.

Barry,

The way I understand it, it is the power handling capability of the built-in
connectors used by the VU. To get to 60 watts, separate power wiring must be
added. Maybe someone from Flex will give a better explanation.

I'm just curious about the '5000 transverter field upgrade. Why is the field
upgrade limited to the 30W version and the 60W version requires a factory
install?

Barry
