A 25 amp Astron switcher should work well as a P/S.

I'll let others comment on successful laptop configurations, as I use small PCs
(like the Shuttle) as opposed to laptops.

Subject: [Flexradio] Portable F3K

In October, and again in November, I am supposed to put on a
dog-and-pony show with my F3K. The problem is that I cannot carry
my 300# station effectively. So I will carry the F3K, buy a 12v
supply for it, and need a laptop to drive it. What do you all
recommend??? I need SSB capability (CW not a requirement because of
the audience), so keeping cost down is an important consideration....
