On AM, the scope is useless as it only shows the audio waveform.
In the shack, its handy to have an Oscope to look at the transmitted waveform (to make sure the modulation looks good) and the received waveform to see what the other peoples modulation looks like.

Lots of AM operators use homebrew (me) radios, or vintage radios, and like to check things out to make sure things are set right.

On receive and transmit, we want to see the modulated carrier, the audio waveform is useless.
On both TX and RX, the scope shows nothing that is useful.
On RX, it shows no carrier, on TX it shows the carrier but not the negative modulation...
Also, there is no IF output to hook a scope up to.

I hear a LOT of flex radios on AM, they sound very good and have lots of nice options, but have 2 major bugs, the scope and the auto notch filter which 'seems' to notch out the carrier, not the interference. I am not sure if its set to notch out the strongest steady signal (which is the carrier on AM) or if something else is going on.
The Icom 756 pro 3 I had worked great in that respect.

"o-scope, not the one on the Flex software which I wonder what use it has."

To be able to see modulated signals in the time domain.

I was looking for a station monitor not a computer monitor, generally includes a o-scope, not the one on the Flex software which I wonder what use it has

Date: Saturday, February 13, 2010, 6:16 PM I'd suggest an inexpensive
22"
(Acer makes a popular model) from Newegg, they generally sell for
under $150. As for that PC, those specs were worth $240 two years ago.
Makes me think of the people who try to sell their old computers on
craigslist: "Used Dell Pentium III, 256mb ram, paid $2000 selling for
$1000!"

If you are looking to pinch pennies you can build something more than
adequate for under $300.

I didn't answer the question on
monitors.

My option is that the Hanns G monitors, especially this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254043
a 28" bright

screen that is perfect for us guys who need a little larger
type font to

comfortably read (instead of the 1900x1200 stuff I leave nose-tracks
on the

monitor screen reading). For $320, you get a 28"
monitor that is 1600 x 1200

so I can sit more than 2 feet away from the screen and comfortably
read

everything!
