Mike, Diversity reception is a general category. There are several different "flavors" or techniques within the realm of diversity reception.
Basically, with two (or more) receivers (identical is better) that are frequency locked, you can do stereo diversity. It works much better if you have two antennas connected to the receivers that are different (diverse) in distance from one another by at least 1/2 wavelength and polarization. With stereo diversity you feed the audio from one RX to one ear and the audio from the other RX into the other ear and let your brain figure out which one has the best signal to noise ratio. This type of diversity reception can compensate for signal fading because hopefully one antenna will be receiving the signal of interest better than the other one at any given time. Since the F3K and the F-1500 are not identical receivers (the 3k has a better RX as just one difference), it will not be the most optimal configuration, but it will provide a level of stereo diversity reception. http://kc.flex-radio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50386.aspx There is another diversity technique where the two receivers are completely synchronous (the FLEX-5000 + RX2) and this will allow you to do beam steering by shifting the phase/amplitude of one RX to enhance or null signals of interest. This feature in a very "raw" form is available in the alpha code. It is completely manual and takes a bit of learning to be able to null out an interfering signal. There is no other ham radio that can do this other than the FLEX-5000 + RX2. -Tim -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Michael Walker Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2010 8:47 AM To: FlexRadio Reflector Subject: [Flexradio] Flex 3K and 1.5K So, I apologize if this has been asked before (as I have over 2000 unread emails in my Flex in box). Would it be possible to run diversity reception at some point if I was to use a 3K as my main raid and a 1.5K as a 2nd receiver?
