Diversity reception has been around a very long time. I remember seeing it in the early '50's in Air force RTTY traffic circuits. Yes, you can do it with separate radios, and you can easily control their tuning simultaneously by tying them together through software (not necessary, but very convenient). I did some experiments a couple years ago with two K3s using independent antennas and it definitely improved reception using stereo headphones. When one receiver faded out, the other usually had a signal. Reduced the effect of fading almost completely. Definitely worth doing!

The article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antenna_diversity explains a lot.

There are additional advantages if you can phase-lock the receivers and then preferentially tweak the signal delays through software tricks. This is called beam-forming, or null-steering. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beamforming for more on this concept. From what I read about PowerSDR development, we may have this in a future release for the flex-5000 hardware. Pretty neat stuff.

So, I apologize if this has been asked before (as I have over 2000 unread emails in my Flex in box).

Would it be possible to run diversity reception at some point if I was to use a 3K as my main raid and a 1.5K as a 2nd receiver?
