Mike I did this once myself, I installed VS 2008, some audio utilities and game software for my grandkids ..
As soon as I did, PowerSDR (any version) hung and/or crashed initializing Port Audio. I could make it work by rebuilding PA19.dll and using that version -- never found the culprit. To fix it I totally rebuilt the system from a clean disk (not installing the VS2008 etc.) .. Sorry it's the only way I found to fix it .. On the bright side, it cleared up some other issues I was having. This was on win 7 64bit also.
