Ralph,

Thanks. That is what I want to hear, and from someone who has already done it.

Please let me know when you post the web page.

I am also interested in knowing if I would find something like the
Ameritron ARI-500 useful for automatic band switching of the amplifier.

While I don't have any experience with the Flex-3000, I do have a Flex-5000
interfaced to my ALS-1300 using an ARI-500. After a few false starts, I
found the right way to do it, and now it works just great, with full band
following and automatic drive level adjustment for all bands.

It is necessary to do a small modification to the ARI-500 to allow the unit
to key the amplifier.

The ARI-500 talks to PSDR through a program called DDUTIL, and a program
called VSP Manager, using a standard parallel port interface. I had to make
a simple cable (5 wires) between the parallel port connector and the RJ-45
connector on the ARI-500.

Then I set up DDUTIL and PSDR to talk to each other and defined the correct
drive levels for the F5K to send to the ALS-1300. The levels were between 40
and 60 watts, for the cleanest output from the amplifier.

I am in the process of writing up the step-by-step procedure to make it all
work. I hope to have it done soon and post it as a web page. I would have
had it done a month ago, but family affairs got in the way.
