Just for clarification, it's a desktop. HP a6333w with AMD processor. Don't ask me why it has only one native USB hub but apparently that's the case. At least there's only one I could access which is why I bought the PCI card. I normally build my own PC's from component pieces but back when I was purchasing my 5K, I had an aging homebuilt PC that was not going to be adequate. With the purchase price of the 5K, I couldn't justify new PC components to my XYL so SHE got a new store bought PC and I got this one as a "hand me down" from her. Better than what I had and capable of running my now gone 5K ( sigh) and the 1500 but not my first choice as far as a PC. Has some quirks like the one USB hub issue and the fact that installing my PCIe video card with it's large fan and shroud blocked access to the other smaller PCIe slot. Maybe I should blame that on the aftermarket video card but still poor planning in the MB design if you ask me. I still prefer to "roll my own" but you do what ya gotta do! Maybe someday when I win the lotto, I can get a fully loaded 5K and once again build my own PC to go with it!

If there is only one USB controller (hub) in the laptop, then there may be more
internal devices connected to it other than the keyboard and mouse. The PCI
/USB bus controller would be guaranteed to have only the FLEX-1500 connected to
it (unless you plugged something else into it). Also the internal USB
controller would use the PCI bus too, so any traffic jams (I would expect none)
would affect both equally as bad.

Hmnn, that's just the opposite preference I would have expected to hear if there was a
preference. I would have though there might be some possible "traffic jams" in
the PCI buss. Shows how much I know!

I'd keep the 1500 on the PCI / USB interface. To be sure, you would have to
see what other devices are sharing the same IRQ as the PCI /USB card.

Subject: [Flexradio] Another USB question

After getting my Flex 1500, I discovered that all the USB ports on my desktop PC were
essentially on the same "hub" which made it impossible for me to isolate the
rig from devices like my USB keyboard that could potentially cause issues.
I say potentially because aside from some clicking in the audio that was
taken care off by reducing the AF gain, everything seemed to be working fine
with everything plugged into the same native hub on my PC.
Just to be safe though, I sought out a Windows 7 PCI USB card so I could put the 1500 on a
"dedicated' hub and thanks to Tim, I found one at NewEgg. Now that I have it installed
and working I have two "hubs"
and can plug the Flex into one and all my other USB devices into the other.

So my question is this.... Is one hub better that the other? Is there any
advantage to plugging the 1500 into the PC's ports supported by the
motherboards native hub over plugging it into the PCI cards ports?
I have enough ports now that I can do it either way.
