I recently built an Elecraft KPA500 amp to use with my 5000A and have to say
that it was money well spent. There were many QSO’s that the amp helped me
compete that would not have been possible barefoot with my SteppIR BigIR
vertical. Yeah I know that I really should put up a yagi but for some of us
that is easier said than done.

A few months ago I was trying to complete a CW QSO with a HL station on 30M and
100 watts was not enough and I bet that 200 would have done the trick. So I
ordered the amp and recently built it. Took about 6 hours and was very easy to
do.

So if you need an amp to cover 160-6 take a look at the KPA500.

And NO I am not going over to the dark side. There is no way that I would ever
go back to a radio with knobs again. And why would I want a radio with only 5
filters when mine has an infinite number of combinations? I am sure that the K3
is a "nice rig" but my 5000A is staying in my shack for a long time.
