For what it is worth, it looks like I have found, and been asking about, is an easy and reliable way to reproduce the bug discussed here: http://tinyurl.com/3muc7m Sorry I missed it before, but I did hunt around, but had it described very differently.
As Curt mentioned, this is a MAJOR issue, for my use of FlightGear. Thank You Alex! What you described in that link does solve the problem for me, but I also am not sure if it is a good solution.
