I've received some reports that FlightGear/CVS crashes on iMac with
nVidia GeForce 7300GT driver.
The reports said that FlightGear 1.0.0 works fine on these machines.
The crash log indicates that it crashes inside GeForceDriver, but I'm
not so sure if it is fgfs/osg bug or nvidia driver bug.
Does anyone know what can be the cause of this problem by reading the
excerpt of the crash log below?
I'm also worried if other macs with nVidia chips might have the same
problem.
If you are using such macs, please let me know if FlightGear/CVS
package works or not.
The latest FlightGear/CVS package for Mac OS X is available from:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=126825&package_id=212565
Note that FlightGear-cvs-bin-20081006.dmg is for Leopard only. If you
are using Tiger, use FlightGear-cvs-bin-20080918.dmg.
This is the problem I have always had with FG/CVS, either your builds,
or my own, on my MacPro - which has a nVidia 7300. My MacBook Pro
(which has an Ati X1600) runs your builds fine. 1.0 runs fine.
My parents recently upgraded to a new iMac, I'll test your version
(and what chipset it has) next time I'm visiting.
I'm still mystified by the bug - all the OSG examples work for me.
I've spent hours (and hours) disabling parts of the scene graph to
isolate the issue, without real success. I can get a state where the
GUI works, and the splash screen is visible, but as soon as I enabled
the osgDB paged scenery loading, I get other crashes related to
dynamic casts. I know you reported an issue with a possible compiler
bug, but switching to a different GCC made no difference. My feeling
right now is there's a memory corruption bug, but if it's really only
on machines with nVidia hardware, that points to driver-based problems
as you say.

James
