Well, Curt has started with the 1.99 series, and is working on setting up an 
automated snapshot release, so this is how we got to the 1.99.5 version 
number. I asked whether adding an "rc" postfix would be breaking this, which 
it apparently doesn't. There are some issues with version number checking, 
according to Curt, so I decided to be a bit reluctant to touch the exsiting 
version numbers at all. Maybe I should change that for the next release 
candidate...
