for what it's worth, it's not all that hard to fix that -- particularly 
if you don't have more than a few thousand distinct objects.

By all means give it try, and do let us know what you think. Do be 
warned that the API is pretty different, and that I think rendering does 
not work on GTK, and I'm not sure how well it's working on OS-X -- I'm 
pretty sure I fixed it, but haven't done much testing.
