> Should we apply as mentors?

Can any of us commit the time to do the mentoring right?

In the past I have been peripherally involved in a few projects that did
GSoC, and what I saw was that, on the projects that Did It Right, the
mentors put quite a lot of time and effort in, the students produced
reasonable code, and the project got "asked back" next year...

On another project, they seemed to view GSoC as a source of cheap
labour, the mentoring was very poor, the code produced was little better
than useless and they did not get "asked back".

If we do it, we need to be in the "Do It Right" camp, so we need to be
prepared to put the time and effort in to the mentoring activities. Can
we do that? I do not know.
