@Eric - thanks for your feedback. The reason why I decided to implement the
framework like this is after doing some rudimentary testing on the counter
group polling mechanism - which was my frist choice as well. What I found was
that if instead I go directly from the component and avoid synchronization to
the extent possible, the performance is better and it also mitigates the risk
of causing locking issues with respect to external tool integration. I am sure
I could have worked through it and fixed those issues to deliver on that
approach, but decided against it for the sake of simplicity and time.
Regarding the second suggestion - of moving away from inheritance to
composition model - I do not have anything against it and will be happy to
facilitate that. However, I would request that it be done in the follow-up
Jiras that will surely come about for covering more grounds on monitoring.
Please let me know if you will be willing to defer it for later.
