I'm not making my situation clear I see. I was afraid of that. The data already exists in the Artists File (the portal data), but it has to be chosen from the dropdown list to appear in the image file. I don't know if I'm making myself clear here. Sorry, I'm not sure exactly how to give you the picture of my situation.
In the old 5.5 solution, the Artist Field was a related field. As I entered records, I chose the artist's name from a drop down list. When I upgraded to 8.3 (now 8.5) I decided to make that field a portal field - for a lot of reasons. It's essentially a new field in the Image Table layout - so, the portal field is empty. H How do I get the artist's names from my old Artist Field, native to the Image Table, to appear in the new portal field for Artist's names without going through the records one by one and rechoosing the artist's name from the dropdown list (names from the Artist's table)? I know that's a convoluted explanation which may explain why I'm having the difficulty.
