Thanks for the quick reply.
That confirms my suspicions exactly.

Hola Bob,
We use Tivoli at work. Don't copy a live database; this will most
likely
corrupt the databases.
What we do is that we perform the regular FMS backup to another
internal
drive or partition and Tivoly backs up that content to the remote
server.
So, the FMS drive or partition is not touched by Tivoli.

Hi all,

Is anyone using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager with a FileMaker Server?
Our campus operates an IBM Tivoli Storage Manager tape library, and
so I have the great opportunity to use it to have a secure, off-site
back up of my FileMaker Server.
What I do not know is whether or not the databases can be open while
a backup is occurring.
Information and experience with Tivoli would be great.
But, general information regarding any backup system is welcome and
probably relevant to the question.
For instance, suppose you are using Retrospect to perform a backup of
your server to tape.
Can the databases be open (and available for use)?
Or do they need to be closed (and unavailable for use) during the
backup?
Thanks,
