Odd simple question for this expert group, but I have at least 100 db’s that I’ve developed on FMPro 5.5, and (obviously) need to upgrade to a newer or newest version of FMPro –possibly advanced. Question: How many other versions do I need to use to convert these without manually(!) converting all of them?

If it matters, I’m a Mac user with OSX 10.4.4 and also will be needing to use it on my laptop with a newer operating system.

You can tell by looking at the file extension what the file format is. If you see ".FP3", it's FileMaker Pro Version 3 format (also usable by FMP 4); ".FP5" is FMP 5 format (also usable by FMP 6); and ".FP7" is FMP Version 7 format (also usable by FMP 8, 8.5, 9, and 10).

Any of the versions of FMP that are capable of reading ".FP7" files can convert ".FP5" files into ".FP7" format for you. Just go to the "File" menu, click on "Open", and select the ".FP5" file (or files) you're interested in. The program will walk you thru the conversion process.

Of course, you'll undoubtedly want to whack away at the converted files to take advantage of things like tables and tooltips that weren't available under the ".FP5" format, but at least you'll be starting from a fully usable (and familiar) database.
