Brian Stell> Documentation please. Andrew Aitchison> Brian, that it ungracious. BS> ??? why? We get a donation and the first thing that anyone from XFree86 says is "More ?". Sorry, you did say "please"; I thought you should have said "thank you" first :-) BS> Why would wanting more info on this be considered a problem? A commercial organization can't be expected to make pre-releases on request, or say in advance exactly what they will release; suggesting they might not document it isn't very flattering. I took it for granted that a formal release from a professional company would include appropriate documentation. AA> While I understand the commercial need to keep quiet, I trust that AA> enough noises have been made in the right directions to ensure that AA> skilled people like Keith Packard haven't been wasting their time. KP> I learned of this interesting effort immediately before the announcement. KP> I'm actually glad I wasn't asked to sign an NDA to receive earlier access KP> to the information, as I would have been reluctant to do so. I prefer to KP> work in the open without constraint on what I may publish, especially when KP> developing standards that affect interoperability among new and existing KP> softwares. Fair enough. I didn't like the idea of you working away for months, only for Sun to come along with something which make it obsolete. I understand that ST may not do this, but *if* Sun thought that that were the case I hope that they would have given you a hint that they were working in the same area. We aren't aiming for competing products, so I hope we don't treat each other as rivals. -- Dr. Andrew C.
