Here's a bit of an reminder/update about our noticeboard, windows and advertising and what the coop policy is to clear up confusion and make sure everyone knows what the story is. This stuff was talked about and decided towards the end of last year and revisted at the last meeting and reaffirmed.
The notice board inside the shop now has two sections, both of which are labelled.
The top bit is for thoughtful foods news and notices (ie only for stuff that is directly for the coop like working bee news, meetings, flyers for vegie boxes, food coop birthday celebration updates (we turn ten in september:)! etc).
The bottom half is the community news and notice board which is where people are welcome to put stuff up. the general guide for the community section is that if it's community news and fits in the general coop goodness, philosophy, ethics and policy its cool to go up but if its say a poster from mcdonalds its not. Ie the is your space to use for finding housemates, letting people know about a film night, fundraising gig, workshops, music lessons etc. Notices, posters, flyers etc. are to go on the noticeboards and not on the windows (see below). We've got a pile of butterfly clips to attatch flyers to the sides of the boards so people can see them and grab them if there's interested but at the same time deal with the space issue and make sure the shop looks tidy and the counter isnt covered in flyers.
Things put up on the notice boards need to be dated and will be removed after three weeks or after the event is over, which ever is sooner. Given the space issue, we'd encourage people to consider other and not use all the room and this also helps cut down on teh amount of paper used .
We'd really appreciate it if people could stick to this and remind anyone wanting to put up notices as if we let one person do it then everyone does it and then we end up with no space to put up food coop stuff which is why we divided up the notice boardr in the first place.
We're in the process of making up display boards to explain what the coop is, does, how it works and why it exists, veggies etc. These will go on the side where the snack bar jars are, towards to fridge so we dont block the snack jars drawing people in and above the banner that should be getting put up sometime this week..
We want to keep the windows on the cash register side clear to let the sun and light in and so people can look in and out - makes the shop look more friendly and open if you know what i mean... it also means we dont have to spend ages cleaning off sticky paper stickers stuck to the windows advertising free essays and the like.
After the midsession breadk we're also going to have a flyer holder near the counter to make sure we can have stuff for people to grab but still make sure the shop looks tidy and nice and pretty. more news of that when its ready to go up.
I'm totally NOT trying to have a go at anyone or tell anyone off or anything like that - just friendly reminder and wanting to make sure everyone knows what the story is and how it works is all. Any confusion or queries, please let me know and I'll try and explain it better.
