In that case, if you want to make further use of that library, it's
probably best to file a bug with CSS2XSLFO as it generates FO of a
dubious quality.
I somehow doubt there's an XSL-FO implementation that renders the sample
you supplied 'as expected'. The author(s) of CSS2XSLFO probably never
tried what you tried. If they care about the quality of their package,
they will be grateful if you bring it to their attention.
Well, they should anyway... :/
I already reported it as soon as I confirmed that the output was bogus (and
after trying to fix it myself.)
It isn't entirely their fault since the original HTML had position:absolute
without display:block, which is spurious in the first place. But it should
be possible to work around by just assuming any <span> with
position:absolute is display:block.
