HI.
The resistor packs I am using are multi-part, 4 resistors per 8-pin pack.
These are series source termination resistors and must be close to the pins
as possible, so my focus on the PCB not the schematic. But each of the four
appears as a single symbol on the schematic and none need ever be moved or
rewired. Just the part designator may need to be changed and the subsection
pin assignment selected to match the PCB.
Of course I am using only a single 19-inch monitor, not two monitors as some
do. But I think it is very tedious to correctly make all the changes while
viewing both the schematic and the PCB at a scale where pin numbers and nets
can be read while panning around the traces. True, I may be doing it wrong
but the alternatives don't sound less error prone or less tedious either.
And the problem only gets worse for the larger BGA devices at the scale
needed to perform all this manipulation. If I can write what I need with a
simple Perl script that creates a change list then I would expect it not to
be too difficult to add to the package. I'll reserve any further comment
until the Perl program is working.

Tim Hutcheson
