Hello all, I’ve been previewing a print of Hollis Frampton’s 1974 film “Summer Solstice,” and it looks very much to me like it was shot at 18fps. At 24fps the movements of the cows look slightly speeded up throughout. The label on the can (from Filmmakers Coop) clearly says 24fps.
I’m wondering if anyone on this list knows anything about Frampton’s intentions regarding the projection speed. Did he want it to look slightly speeded up, or did he intend it to be shown at 18fps? I haven’t been able to find anything about this online. I actually saw him project this film in person many years ago as part of the Magellan Cycle, but my memory of it is no longer crystal clear, especially since it was probably the first film I ever saw by him. Thanks for any insights. Scott Stark Sent from my iPad -- Frameworks mailing list [email protected] https://mail.film-gallery.org/mailman/listinfo/frameworks_film-gallery.org
