Fair enough. Check with the vendor of your hard drive (or the laptop) for their hard-drive test utilities. You should be able to do a non-destructive read test and see what you see....

Oh, just something that occured to me now: do you think this may be due to the harddrive overheating? Maybe a fan isn't working, or a ventilation grill has been covered up. The computer has been turned on for quite extended periods of time lately. Yay, nay? Possible cause?
