Nice to see Arch catching up with Fedora:-). > I currently build freecol trunk against java 7, could try the following > things : > > build against java 7 , run with java8 > build against java 8, run on java 8 > > I do expect to discover new bugs that way, but is the time right to > start testing freecol trunk that way ? I would not be rushing to fix anything broken with Java 8 right now. The long delayed release takes priority, for which Java 6+7 are adequate. Post-release though, making sure FreeCol works with Java 8 will be important. I have not looked at how difficult it will be. One thing I plan to do soon after release is fix all current warnings for old code that Java 7 does not like, and increment the minimum required Java version to 7. Whether to do that first, or to get Java 8 working first is unclear, so if you feel like investigating Freecol-with-Java-8 I will be interested to hear how it goes. Just do not expect any consequent action until 0.11.0 is released. Cheers, Mike Pope
