Those look very bad indeed.

If at some point you feel like trying it out again , look in the dosbox 
configuration file for the section called render.

[render]
frameskip=0
aspect=true
scaler=hq3x

Using those settings on my 1920x1200 monitor, the game is bearable on 
full screen and looks good in windowed mode.
