The only reason UnRAR is non-free, AFAICT, is because it says "don't develop a RAR competitor with it". BTW, I haven't checked closely, but Virtual Pascal had some old old RAR 1.x support libs and sources that may be free/libre (used by its installer). But yes, we have several LZMA-related things. (Heck, even ZIP technically supports LZMA compression as optional, among others, but since only p7zip can unpack that for us, what's the point? And ZIP is file-based, not in solid chunks, for good or bad.) http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/util/file/7zip/ Honestly, I'm all for .7z, but Jim and pals around here seem to prefer .ZIP (pseudo "standard"). Which isn't so bad when we're dealing with normal-sized files. For big stuff, I'd want better compression: http://lzip.nongnu.org/benchmark.txt ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
