Oh, I forgot that there is also a proprietary compiler which uses
the same abbreviation. ;-)

I meant Bruce's C-Compiler, which is already included in FreeDOS.
It was mainly developed for porting linux to 16bit and write code for
bootloaders and such things. That it can build DOS programs was kind of
a byproduct. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be actively developed
anymore.
