Cherry-picking might not the best idea here. In my opinion providing a DOS makefile to the repository would be more beneficial. As the repository owner says:
This project exists as a service to all computer archaeologists and acts as a focal point for patches and maintenance for the long haul.
The FreeDOS package is updated with the fixed binary. Apart from that, I am not planning to do any work on the code. But I may update the package if someone else continues to work on it...
